shorty asked:
When did you completely stop the formula and how did your baby take to it? I have heard of people starting to feed their baby table food at 3 months! And the baby turn out to be as healthy as can be. Formula is so expensive! So i want different opinions, what did you do with your baby and how did it work for them?

I started table foods at around 9 months….I nursed until 9 months, I then pumped and started introducing other forms of dairy such as yougurt and cheese. He got his first glass of whole milk at 11 months.
I have four kids…I fed my kids, when they started becoming intrested in what I was eating, you could always try to give your child milk. I breast fed for two years, but did give them some milk around age 5 months.. I think you could try it on her at 3 months..
breast milk or formula for one year AT LEAST> reg. milk does not have the nutrients the baby needs. Table foods? mashed taters after about 8 months, tiny pieces of carrots etc. NO JUNK OR SWEET food. Formula or Breast should be mainstay of diet!
Yes, formula is expensive and I am very grateful to qualify for WIC. My son gets formula, infant cereal, and juice as of right now at 6 months old for WIC. Do you know if you qualify? It would be very helpful. I wish that everyone that NEEDED the help could get it because no baby should be put on cow’s milk before 12 months old! I feed my baby only formula, cereal, and earth’s best baby food. Even though WIC gets us juice I feel that juice is unnessary for him since it has so much sugar and he eats enough fruit anyways which is much more healthier.
I wish you the best and hope you can afford the formula because your baby really does need formula until his or her first birthday. Try the off-brand formula. I know this one off-brand has the same nutritional facts as Enfamil, which I think is the best for infants. WIC gets us Similac, however.
It is not good to give a baby cows milk until after their first birthday. Cows milk is too hard for them to digest. They can have many problems (including, but not limited to; vomiting, diarrhea, allergies, poor weight gain and even malnutrition). At one year you can give cows milk … make sure it is whole milk, not low fat. At 2 years, most Pediatricians recommend changing to 2% fat milk unless your child is extremely underweight.
Table food is basically what baby food is made from, as long as your table food is basic food and doesn’t contain added spices, sugars or salts. If you like to season your food while cooking, cook it and set some aside for the baby before you add the seasoning for everyone else. Babies don’t need the added spices, sugars and salts and it can actually be harmful to their little stomachs. When you steam your vegetables, set a little aside and put it through the blender. You can also do this with fruits and meats.
Wait until after your baby is at least 6 months old. He/she needs all the nutrients to come from breast milk/formula until that point. Add the fruits/vegetables slowly. Hold off on the meats until the baby is closer to a year old. Talk to your Pediatrician as to when he/she prefers you start feeding solid foods as some of them like to wait longer than 6 months, especially if the baby hasn’t been gaining weight good since birth.
I understand your pain about formula but I waited to almost a year before switching to regular milk. I started giving all my kids table food as soon as they had some teeth. I also made my own baby food when they were in that stage. It’s not as hard as you may think and it saved us a ton of money. I would make it and freeze it.
My 1st and 2nd born are thin and I used formula for 1 yr and bought store bought baby food.
My 3rd and 4th are healthy not fat or chubby just not as thin as my older two. I used formula for 9 months to a year and made my own baby food.
